FAQs

Q: What makes Yame matcha so special?
Yame, in Fukuoka Prefecture, is one of Japan’s most respected tea-growing regions. Its misty mountain climate and rich soil create ideal conditions for cultivating high-quality tea with a naturally sweet, umami-rich flavour and vibrant green colour. Yame matcha frequently wins national awards — including this one, which earned 2 stars at the 2023 Great Taste Awards.

Q: What does "ceremonial grade" mean?
Ceremonial grade matcha refers to the highest quality matcha, traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremonies. It’s made from the youngest tea leaves and stone-ground into a fine powder. This grade is best enjoyed on its own, whisked with water, without milk or sweeteners.

Q: How should I prepare this matcha?
Sift 2g of matcha (about 1/2 tsp) into a bowl. Add 60–70ml of hot water (around 80°C), then whisk briskly in an “M” or “W” motion with a bamboo whisk until frothy. For best results, use filtered water and enjoy immediately.

Q: Is this matcha sweetened?
No — this is a pure, unsweetened matcha with no additives or flavourings. Its natural sweetness comes from the Okumidori cultivar and careful cultivation in Yame.

Q: Can I use this matcha in lattes or baking?
You can, though we recommend using it for straight matcha tea to enjoy the delicate flavour. For matcha lattes or baking, we suggest trying our Everyday Matcha or Baking Grade options.

Q: How many servings are in one 30g pack?
Each pack contains approximately 15 servings when using 2g per cup.

Q: Is it organic?
While our Yame Okumidori matcha is cultivated with care and without unnecessary chemicals, it is not certified organic. However, we work closely with a trusted tea farm in Yame that prioritises sustainable farming methods.
