This tea is produced by MATCHADO’s tea partner in Oku-Yamato, a mountainous region in Nara Prefecture where tea cultivation dates back over 1,200 years. This area—once known as Yamato—is the birthplace of Japanese tea, where the monk Kukai first planted tea seeds brought from Tang-dynasty China. To this day, the misty mountains and dramatic temperature shifts of northern Nara create the ideal environment for producing rich, flavourful tea.
