Ingredients

  • Matcha powder
  • Water

Directions

  1. Prepare a whisk, a bowl, and your favorite matcha. We recommend our Yame Okumidori, which boasts a rich, deep umami and vibrant green tea flavour.
  2. Weigh 3g of matcha powder using kitchen scales and put it into the bowl.
  3. Pour 40ml of hot water (around 70°C) into the bowl. Note: Avoid using boiling water, as high temperatures release catechins, which can make the tea bitter. Keeping the water at 70°C preserves the natural sweetness of the matcha.
  4. Strain the mixture through a fine strainer to ensure there are absolutely no lumps.
  5. Pour the matcha back into the bowl, add an additional 100ml of hot water, and whisk vigorously in a zigzag motion for another 15 to 20 seconds. Once large bubbles appear, bring the whisk to the surface and whisk gently to break them down into a fine, creamy foam.
  6. Pour around 100ml of hot water into a 8oz cup. If you prefer a stronger flavour, using less water works best. Feel free to adjust the amount to suit your taste!
  7. Gently pour your prepared matcha into a cup.
  8. Unlike with iced drinks, the beautiful bubbles stay on the surface, enhancing the rich aroma and creating a delicate texture.
